The Board

James Sinclair Taylor

Chair of the Board

James is a solicitor and management consultant who has worked for and with charities all his life, initially in community law centres and then as Senior Partner in the Charity and Social Business Team advising charities ranging from the large, like UNICEF, to small community based charities but with a strong focus on charities meeting social need. He has been a trustee of a range of charities including grant makers, a development trust, an adventure playground and an international aid charity and was appointed Protector of NESTA (formerly The National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts) by the Secretary of State. James lives in Dorset and is blessed with a lovely family, garden and a recalcitrant sailing dinghy.

Carole Powell

Senior Independent Board member (S.I.B.M), Chair of the Remuneration and Nominations / Regulatory and Housing Standards Committee

Carole lives in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire and is married with two grown up children. She is the special educational needs and disability co-ordinator (SENDCo) and a member of the senior leadership team in a large state primary school. Carole has been a teacher for over 30 years and is passionate about the inclusive rights of children and adults with learning difficulties and disabilities Carole is also a qualified counsellor/psychotherapist working with children aged 4 to 11 years and serves on the Buckinghamshire educational appeals panel.
Carole joined the Board in 2013.

Peter Paton

Committee membership: Remuneration and Nominations / Regulatory and Housing Standards

Married with a daughter who lives with her family in the USA, Peter lives in Northamptonshire. After a successful civil service career in what is now The DWP, Peter has worked in the community care industry advising and guiding care providers and their clients in the range of benefits for those with special needs. He is also a welfare visiting officer and benefits advisor working with two charities assisting their Trustees in the administration of their grants and other regular financial support to their beneficiaries. Peter has known and worked with Reside since we started in 2002 and has been a trustee since 2011.

Stuart Stephen

Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee

Stuart is an Independent Pension Trustee and until recently held global roles as Group Pensions Director for a number of major FTSE Companies including Barclays Bank and Lloyds Banking Group. Stuart is Treasurer of his local Community Council has also been Secretary of a Charitable Foundation Trust. Stuart is married with 2 adult children. In his spare time Stuart plays hockey for the Scottish Thistles, runs and skis – although not all at the same time!

Ron Morley

Committee membership: Audit and Risk

Ron is a retired accountant and was formerly Company Secretary for Compass Group PLC, a major international catering group. He is married with 3 grown up children, and lives in Iver Heath in Bucks. He is familiar with the sector in which Reside operates, as he has a brother who has been in Long Term Care with enduring mental health issues.

David Purves

Committee membership: Audit and Risk

David lives in Hertfordshire.  After a successful career in the Public Sector in various management positions within Government Departments dealing with Welfare Benefits and Pensions, he set up his own Management, Training and Consultancy company, specialising in Project Management and Programme Management, assisting public and private sector organisations in their management of transformational change programmes. He has maintained his interest in welfare provision and related benefits and currently assists an occupation-related charity in their administration of welfare payments and support.

Stephen Bromley

Committee membership: Remuneration and Nominations / Regulatory and Housing Standards

Stephen joined the Board of Reside in 2017. He brings nearly 30 years of social housing experience to Reside having been providing ICT consultancy to housing providers throughout the UK since 1993. Prior to this he was the Head of Finance and part of the Senior Management Team within a medium sized housing association. Since starting the consultancy Stephen has helped nearly 200 organisations with a wide range of ICT projects including system procurement and implementation and more recently development and implementation of digital strategies. He has previously been a Board of two other developing housing associations.

Brian Logan

Committee membership: Audit and Risk

Brian is a chartered public finance accountant by profession and is now Chief Executive of one of Scotland’s largest housing and care providers, specialising in services to older people. He has previously worked in both the voluntary sector and in local government. He lives just outside Edinburgh and has been a Board member at Reside since 2017.

Jack Burnham

Committee membership: Remuneration and Nominations / Regulatory and Housing Standards

Jack is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Chartered Institute of Housing. He currently works as Development Director for a rapidly growing Housing Association based in the Home Counties. He has experience working in both the public and private sector, principally in social housing, construction and development.
Before joining the Board of Reside in 2017, Jack chaired a small Housing Association which specialises in providing housing and support for residents with learning difficulties. Jack lives in Hertfordshire with his wife and two young children and is a passionate supporter of Watford Football Club.

Management Team

Diane French

Chief Executive Officer

Diane started her career working in homelessness and mental health as a project worker and referrals officer for supported housing. She then moved into a variety of local policy and commissioning roles based in Public Health – gaining a Master’s degree in Social Policy on route. Moving to national roles – she worked with the National Treatment Agency, the Healthcare Commission and the National Audit Office and got further involved in the NHS through NED roles with primary care and clinical commissioning groups. She became Director of Performance and Quality for a national mental health charity in 2010, working with them in a number of roles and leaving over five years later as the Group Director of Operations, having helped bring in 5 merger partners. Diane then joined a national learning disability charity as the Director of Operations and Business Development where she managed 25% growth in 2 years and reviewed quality and operational systems. She completed her Master’s degree in Executive Management with Ashridge Business School in 2017. She was delighted to join Reside Housing Association in January 2018 as CEO.

Les Warren

Finance Director and Company Secretary

Les joined Reside in October 2017. Les is a Chartered Accountant having qualified with a Big Four accounting practice in Dublin. In his early career he worked in the Property and IT sectors in the UK, Ireland and South Africa. For the last 10 years he has held Director-level roles with various types and sizes of organisations in the social housing sector. As well as Finance, his functional responsibilities over that period have included IT, Procurement, Human Resources and Customer Services. Les is an enthusiastic advocate of the role that lean thinking and systems thinking approaches can play to improve business performance and unlock the potential of team of individuals and teams. He also holds an MBA from the Graduate School of Business of the University of Cape Town. Outside of work Les has an interest in the arts and is a keen (but very average) skier

Dipak Patel

Corporate Services Director

Dipak graduated in 1996 with a BA Honours Degree in Accounting from the University of Kent then joined a central London firm of chartered accountants. Two years later Dipak left accountancy practice to take up a very interesting Systems Accountant position with a nursing home operator undergoing rapid growth. An opportunity for a business career presented itself which Dipak embraced in favour of completing professional accountancy qualifications. Dipak set up a restaurant business in Covent Garden which expanded to further units based in London. A career spanning 11 years in the restaurant business came to a close after disposing his business interests. Having always had an interest in technology, Dipak retrained as a network engineer specialising in Ethernet based high-end routers and switches, during a period when the foundations for laying down the internet infrastructure was flourishing. Dipak joined Cisco’s networking career certification programme and contract placements followed for several years, including with Siemens Network Systems, British Airways Data Centres (at Heathrow East Base) and SITA (Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques). Dipak attained professional Cisco qualifications along the way (CCNA and CCNP). In 2003 Dipak took on a small project-based contract with a fledgling housing association (Reside) to set up a PC based network and accounting system. The ethos and values of Reside offered a refreshing change to the world of business and Dipak took on a permanent position with Reside in 2004. Since then he has progressed through various roles, including in business development, as Finance Director, Company Secretary; and currently as Corporate Services Director. He is married with 2 school-aged children and lives in Kingston-upon-Thames.

Steve Harris

Business Development Director

After beginning his working life at the Ministry of Defence, Steve realised he needed a more fulfilling career path. Voluntary work with people with learning disabilities led to employment in a care and support role in a Local Authority children’s respite service. He then took up managerial roles in various residential care and supported living services in the Local Authority and voluntary sectors.
An understanding that housing was a vital element in ensuring good quality social care led to housing and support development roles co-coordinating policy and improving joint working between local authority commissioning and housing association provision. He was then involved in developing and implementing the Supporting People programme for Leeds City Council before taking a role in social care commissioning. Steve worked with Housing Options, a charitable national membership organisation providing housing and social care advice to families’ local authorities and professionals, developing innovative housing solutions, taking on consultancy projects and working with Government Departments on national policy development. He was involved in developing Housing Options into the Housing and Support Alliance and then Learning Disability England. Steve joined reside in 2016.

Chaminda Karunaratne

Head of Accounts

Chaminda joined Reside in 2004 and looks after everyday affairs within the accounts department. Chaminda graduated with an honours degree in Civil Engineering, possesses a master’s degree and CIMA part-qualification. He is married with two preschool aged girls and lives in Tolworth.

Charles Titcombe

Property Manager

Charles looks after property acquisitions, capital project works and building technical investigation matters. A registered architect, he has almost 40 years experience in design and construction related matters.

Joanna Arnold

Facilities & Support Manager

Joanna has been with Reside since 2004, starting off in the accounts department and now heading up the successful maintenance and facilities department. Joanna has put in place processes to ensure our tenants receive a prompt, friendly and competent service.

Val Lord

Tenant Support Manager

Valerie worked overseas until 2010 when she returned to the UK and worked in ‘Welfare to Work’ before joining Reside in 2012. As the Tenant Support Manager part of her role is to meet with new tenants to explain their tenancy and support them with their application to Housing Benefit. Val is assisted by the Tenant Support Team.
