Shaping the future of specialist supported housing

Wednesday, 6 November 2019

Reside is to play its part in shaping the future of supported housing in England, following our letter to the new Housing Minister.

Government officials are joining us and fellow members of the Learning Disability Housing Network at our November meeting to discuss our views and concerns, to feed into an ongoing national review of supported housing services.

Delegates from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government want to meet with us to learn more about the challenges faced by our specialist sector, to help them develop future government policy.

Luke Hall MP, Minister for Local Government and Homelessness, wrote to us about their planned visit in reply to a letter from our Chief Executive Officer Diane French.

She wrote to congratulate Esther McVey MP on her appointment as Housing Minister and to highlight the importance of specialist supported housing for people with learning difficulties, disabilities and mental health issues.

Mr Hall said he very much appreciated the work of such housing providers who gave vital support to vulnerable people and played an important role in helping individuals transfer from long-term hospital care to living independently in the community.
