Last year on Starts at Home Day I wrote a celebratory piece about all the wonderful things I have seen happen in Supported Housing over my career – the lives changed, the independence gained.
And this year I still feel celebratory about all the amazing achievements of supported housing. As an organisation I know making a difference to the lives of people is what drives staff motivation and all our hard work to be continuously better at what we do.
This year however I have felt nervous for our sector, nervous because I worry about the reputation of the sector, the challenges the sector faces, the desperation of social care partners for funding. A number of housing providers who work particularly in the Learning Disability space have started meeting together to discuss our mutual concerns and so today on Starts at Home day we have written to The Rt hon Esther McVey and Luke Hall MP to ask for their help to advocate for our sector and protect all the great work it does.
