Our response to the autumn statement

Latest news

Annette Stevens, our Director of Housing Operations, shares her thoughts on the autumn statement and how this might affect tenants who have a learning disability or who are autistic.

“It is good to see Local Housing Allowance rates restored to 30 percentile of market rents and the increase in benefits in line with inflation.

“The implementation of mandatory work placements along with benefit entitlements and sanctions are a concern for a number of learning disability charities.

There is great risk that comes with pushing people into work without the right support and it could make them worse off as they face higher living costs compared to non-disabled people.”

Support provider United Response has created an Easy Read version of the autumn statement, enabling people with support needs to access important updates on issues around housing benefits, job seekers allowance, and the national minimum wage.
