Proposal to include tenants in a new committee

Latest news

Thank you to everyone who took part in our consultation about proposals to introduce a new tenant committee.

We want to enhance how our tenants can help us to improve our services by including them in a new committee, along with board members. The committee will act for our supported living tenants, and the purpose of the committee will be to help listen to the tenant voice.

The main responsibilities of the committee are to:

  • Review the service delivery to tenants
  • Understand tenant satisfaction results to help drive improvements
  • Understand the complaints process, reporting and experiences of tenants to ensure their concerns are dealt with effectively
  • Review performance against regulatory and legislative requirements which have a tenant impact
  • Review and comment on relevant policies, strategies, business priorities, and service improvement projects from a tenant perspective

We spoke to tenants throughout October and November. The consultations were held at Hebden Court supported living scheme in Scunthorpe, and at a virtual session via the Virtual Hub for tenants.

There was also an opportunity to answer a poll and leave feedback on the Progress Housing Group website (which RWP is a part of): Have your say | Proposal to include tenants in a new committee

Everyone who filled out the consultation form was entered into a prize draw to win a £100 shopping voucher. We were delighted to award the voucher to one of our tenants, Stephen, who was selected at random to receive the prize.

Debbie Atherton, Executive Director (Governance, People and Communications), said: “We were thrilled at how many people joined us to have their say about our new committees. We gained valuable insight and really appreciated everyone’s time and feedback on our proposals, so thank you.

“We want to involve our tenants even more in helping us to improve our services. And we believe tenants reviewing and having a say on our governance structure can help us share what's best for our tenants and communities.”

Alan, Customer Voice officer, said: “Hearing what our tenants have to say is a top priority. We are committed to making sure the voice of our tenants is heard and acted on to improve the services that we provide.

“It was a pleasure to help with the consultations and hear people’s thoughts on the committee proposals. We look forward to recruiting for the committees in January.”

What’s next?

Your feedback will be shared with involved tenants and our Senior Leadership Team, and will support us to review our governance arrangements.

We will be recruiting for these committees in January. Tenant members would be expected to agree to be a member for a period of time and take part one day a month. This includes meetings, training or activities.
