Applying for supported living

If your family member is ready to move into a supported living property, you will need to contact your local authority, usually through the social services department.

When you contact them, you need to ask for an assessment – this will determine whether your loved one can access a care support package. The local authority will then work with you to help access the right type of housing that your family member needs.

If you need help, please check on the Government's website by clicking here.

You can also contact us directly as we will always try and help you.

Once your application is processed, you and your family member will be given the opportunity to look around the property and meet anyone else living there. The support team will be happy to chat with you about their work and also explain the community facilities available.

A supported living housing officer from RWP will then arrange to meet you and your family member to explain the tenancy agreement.

They will also use a 'pictorial' aid to explain our tenants’ rights and responsibilities. They will be able to show you and your family member short videos that explain different aspects of the tenancy, such as moving in, managing rent payments, reporting repairs, getting along with neighbours and how to give us feedback.

If you are an 'appointee', appointed by the Court of Protection you may sign the tenancy agreement on your family member’s behalf.

Help with costs

We charge our tenants rent for the property they live in. For the vast majority of tenants, their rent is paid directly to us by housing benefits.

If your family member is unable to afford to pay the rent themselves, they can claim help towards their housing costs. The housing officer can help tenants with making a claim.

We also receive NHS Transforming Care grants to support purchasing and refurbishing homes for individuals moving out of hospital settings to support living in the community.
