World Autism Acceptance Week 2 – 8 April 2024

Latest news

With an estimated 700,000 autistic people in the UK, World Autism Acceptance Week is an opportunity to recognise the challenges that autistic people face. Every year, since 1970, autism acceptance week has been celebrated to help raise awareness and increase understanding of autism.

The theme for this year’s campaign is colour, to reflect the spectrum of conditions. Autism is a spectrum condition and affects people in all sorts of different ways. Autistic people deserve to live full lives, reaching their potential and with support if they require it. Many have a secondary diagnosis or complex needs such as a learning disability, ADHD or epilepsy.

Many of our tenants are autistic and receive support from RWP housing officers, support workers, family, and friends. It is important that we are able to understand more about living with autism, support provided for our tenants in supported living, and how to talk about autism.

We’re supporting the National Autistic Society to raise awareness and increase understanding of autism. We will be sharing blogs from tenants and staff and helpful resources. You can watch our animated explainer about how to talk about autism.
