Meet James

James, 21, is one of our supported living tenants who lives in Hampshire. His support is provided by Potens UK.

James recently won a Samsung tablet in our newsletter prize draw. He enters lots of competitions, so he was thrilled to win.

“My iPad has broken, so it’s come at a good time,” says James.

He shares his home with three young women, along with his elder brother Tim who is 24. Everyone is about the same age in the house and sometimes they all go to events, such as Wheels Day, the local car show. “We all get on well together,” says James.

James is taking part in a Pathway to Independence course at his local college. He attends four days a week. He enjoys it as there are a range of activities. “I like cooking, and baking cakes,” he says.

When he’s not at college, James loves the cinema and attends regularly. “The latest film I went to see was Sonic 2!” He also goes to the pub with his friends. He really likes Pokemon Go and going out for walks. But mostly you’ll find James at his local gym, where he likes to work out under the guidance of his personal trainer.

“I’ve been going to the gym for a few years. I like to tone up when I’m working out. I used to do a lot of cardio but now I do mostly weights,” he explains.

With his new Samsung tablet James intends to play games and watch TikTok; he follows his friends and loves funny videos. “I make my own TikToks, too, which are usually dancing videos.”

James also loves gaming on his PS4 and Xbox, and he likes car games. “My favourite game is GTA 5!”

James’ home is the first supported living home where has lived independently. “Before I came here, I lived at home with my Mum and Dad. My brother is here too. I actually have quite a big family with lots of brothers!” he says.

James doesn’t live too far away from his parents, about a 10-minute train journey, so if he’s in the area he will drop into see them. “Every three weeks, my Mum comes over to take me out for lunch or ice cream.”
